A Marconi-Powered Giveaway

In celebration of Marconi's first release,Rackspace Hosting is donating several UDOO boards for us to give away to our stylish and talented friends in the OpenStack community.

UDOO is a delicious ARM + Arduino sandwich, sporting the awesome Freescale Cortex-A9 i.MX.6. This little guy eats Raspberry Pi for breakfast. Learn all about it at www.udoo.org.

About Marconi

Marconi is a cloud messaging and notification service for developers building applications on top of OpenStack. The service features a web-friendly HTTP API, which developers can use to send messages between the various components of their SaaS and mobile applications, using a variety of communication patterns. Underlying the API is an efficient messaging engine designed with scalability and security in mind.

Marconi is in production today as the engine behind Rackspace Cloud Queues.

How to Win an UDOO

All OpenStack community members, except Marconi core reviewers, are eligible for the giveaway. In fact, there are two ways to snag an UDOO:

First, all new contributors to the Marconi program will be entered into a drawing to win one of the boards. You may choose to contribute to either the server project or client project. Simply submit a patch between May 12, 2014 at 0:00 UTC and June 3, 2014 at 23:59 UTC to have your name entered in the drawing. Note that each new contributor will have an equal chance to win an UDOO.

The second way to win an UDOO is to create an open-source app, tool, or device that uses (or manages) Marconi. We will give away one board for each winning submission in three categories:

  • Most creative submission by an intern or student
  • Most useful dev/ops tool for deploying or managing FOSS
  • Overall most creative use of Marconi

Note that projects need not be elaborate, but they *do* need to work and be reasonably bug-free. You are free to use any programming language and hardware platform you like. Please host your code, schematics, etc. on GitHub or Bitbucket. Only new projects, started on or after May 12, 2014, are eligible for the giveaway. {TODO: link to submission form}

Everyone is welcome to both contribute a patch and submit a project, but we are limiting one UDOO per person. If your project wins in one of the three categories mentioned above, your name will not be considered for the raffle.

Judging

Project submissions will be judged by Megan Wohlford (Product Manager, Rackspace Cloud Queues), Kurt Griffiths (PTL, Marconi), and Marconi's core reviewer team. The drawing will be conducted by Malini Kamalambal with the help of RANDOM.ORG. All winners will be announced on or before June 10, 2014.
