Installing XenServer

First you need to decide what XenServer you will install:

  • Citrix XenServer: a commercial product and the only enterprise-class, cloud-proven virtualization platform that delivers the critical features of live migration and centralized multi-server management at no cost
  • XCP: the open source version

Install XenServer

To help install Citrix XenServer, take a look at the official "Installation Guide" doc for your version of XenServer:

Install form ISO

Put the CD in your server, and follow the on screen instruction. See above doc for more details.

Install form PXE

See Appendix C in the install guide on how to setup a PXE boot server.

See here for setting up a PXE server on Ubuntu: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PXEInstallServer

Install XCP

You can download XCP here:

Notes:

  • Install steps are almost identical to XenServer
  • If you want a feature set similar to XenServer 6.0, then take a look at XCP 1.5 beta
  • If you want a more stable system, try XCP 1.1
