M Release Naming

According to the Release Naming Process, this page will contain a list of nominated names for the M release of OpenStack. We will accept nominations until 2015-06-07 23:59:59 UTC.

Release Name Criteria: リリース名の条件

• Each release name must start with the letter of the ISO basic Latin alphabet following the initial letter of the previous release, starting with the initial release of “Austin”. After “Z”, the next name should start with “A” again.
  各リリース名は、１つ前のリリースの１文字目の次の ISO 基本ラテン・アルファベット文字で始まらなければなりません (Austin リリースから始まっています)。Z の次はまた A から始まらなければなりません。
• The name must be composed only of the 26 characters of the ISO basic Latin alphabet. Names which can be transliterated into this character set are also acceptable.
  リリース名は ISO 基本ラテン・アルファベットの２６文字のみで表記できなければなりません。これらの文字に翻訳された名前でも構いません。
• The name must refer to the physical or human geography of the region encompassing the location of the OpenStack design summit for the corresponding release.
  リリース名は、そのリリースに向けた OpenStack デザインサミットが開かれる場所の周囲の地域の自然／人文地理学上の名称でなければなりません。
• The name must be a single word with a maximum of 10 characters. Words that describe the feature should not be included, so “Foo City” or “Foo Peak” would both be eligible as “Foo”.
  リリース名は、最大 10 文字の単語でなければなりません。特徴を示す複数語は含まれません。ですので、Foo City や Foo Peak はどちらも Foo とするのが望ましいです。

• Meguro (目黒): a ward in Tokyo

• Meiji (明治): the emperor that made Tokyo into a capital
  • Also a famous shrine in Tokyo

• Minato (港): a ward in Tokyo
• Mita (三田): a subway station in Minato Ward
  • There are several IT companies around there
• Mitaka (三鷹): a city in Tokyo
• Mizuho (瑞穂): a town located in Nishitama District, Tokyo Metropolis, Japan
• Musashino (武蔵野): a city in Tokyo

• Musashi (武蔵): an old province in which Tokyo is located
  • All other name of location which has Musashi as a prefix are located within Musashi province such as Musashi Kosugi (武蔵小杉), Musashi Koyama (武蔵小山), Musashino (武蔵野), etc.
  • Also one of the most legendary Japanese swordsmen ever
  • Also a brand of protein powder

Not Meeting Standard Criteria

• Marise: In Japanese, the name Marise means - Infinite; endless - Manse in Korean? No such word in Japanese.
• Mirai: means 'future' in Japanese
• Mamushi: Like a lemming, but a snake http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamushi
• Masako: Princess Masako Takeda, daughter of emperor Meiji https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Masako_Takeda
• Miso: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miso Why? Because it allows us to ask of the release "Is it soup yet?" when wanting to know if it is ready.
