User Story Overview

This user story is focused on using OpenStack to manage an existing virtualized environment

User Stories

  1. As the Enterprise IT manager that is deploying an OpenStack cloud alongside my existing infrastructure, I need manage existing virtual machines compute resources.
  2. As the Enterprise IT manager that is deploying an OpenStack cloud alongside my existing infrastructure, I need to onboard existing block storage into Cinder.
  3. As the Enterprise IT manager that is deploying an OpenStack cloud alongside my existing infrastructure, I need manage existing virtual machines network resources.


Key Requirements

  • The process of managing an existing environment is non-disruptive to that environment
  • No service interruption or reboot of physical or virtual machines
  • At the end of the process, OpenStack can be used to manage Compute, Storage, and Network resources using Nova, Cinder and Neutron
  • The OpenStack management server(s) and infrastructure is assumed to be in place before the onboarding operation
  • It should be possible to limit the onboarding operation to one physical host
  • Onboarding operations should scale to hundreds of hosts
