nova-manage
The nova-manage isn't properly documented, but it's going away in Folsom, so using this wiki page for quick docs on it.
It must be run as root, since it needs read access to /etc/nova/nova.conf
Check status of nova services
nova-manage service list
List hosts (physical nodes)
nova-manage host list
