Havate

Use Havate to Deploy and Manage OpenStack on Cisco UCS®

Havate is an OpenStack deployment and management tool for Cisco’s Unified Computing System (UCS®). It is pioneered by OneCloud Consulting to help enterprises deploy and manage OpenStack Cloud on the UCS® platform.

Why Havate?

Cloud-enabled applications can run on organization premises, in public clouds, or on a combination of the two (hybrid) for greater flexibility and business agility. Finding a platform that supports all these scenarios is essential. With Havate, you can take advantage of a set of tools to build an ISO- based installer. This GUI-based management tool enables OpenStack deployments across Cisco UCS® infrastructure with the Cisco Nexus and soon other Cisco- derived plugin components.

Overview

Havate enables flexible, on-demand creation of Cloud infrastructure. It simplifies and accelerates cloud infrastructure deployment through automated configuration, logical chassis management, and role-based deployment.

Server profile templates establish policy-based configuration for server, network, and storage resources. These can be used to logically pre-configure resources before they are deployed in the cloud infrastructure.

With UCSM managed devices, the installer will perform discovery, and creation of service profiles and templates, service pools, and VLAN mappings against those profiles for the selected physical resources via the UCSM integration SDK.

On non-UCSM C-Series, the tool will validate CIMC configuration and discover basic parameters (Disk config, BIOS params, etc.) and extract information needed to deploy a base operating system.

The installer builds a local mirror of all the code needed to install the baseline OpenStack code from either Canonical Cloud or from Cisco-packaged Ubuntu repositories.

The installer also has a local mirror of the packages required to enable the automatic installation of OpenStack across multiple machines, including a UCSM/CIMC aware integration with a tool like Cobbler or The Foreman.

The tool is developed to deploy Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS and the Havana Ubuntu cloud packages. It is able to support deployments based on Cisco’s StackForge-based OpenStack puppet deployment models, with a principal focus on the extensible, “all‐in-one” models delivered via the OpenStack Installer project: https://github.com/Havate/havate-openstack

Roadmap

• Live CD version, no staging VM required.

• RedHat based system instead of Ubuntu/Debian.

• CIMC based parameter discovery for non UCSM systems.

• Savaana for Hadoop on OpenStack.

• Adopt OpenStack standards and practices to ensure Havate is 100% compliant.

• Collaborate with OpenStack community to expand capabilities of Havate and future OpenStack projects.
