This document attempts to detail the current state of PHP versions working to find the minimum version of PHP the OpenStack SDK should support. This document is relevant as of February 2014.

PHP Version Usage
According to w3techs, PHP 5 has a 97.7% market share. The minor version usage breakdown as of February 2014 is:

You can install PHP 5.5 and 5.4 via yum.
Microsoft
- The Microsoft Web Platform Installer contains PHP 5.2.17 and 5.3.5. This is for IIS 7 and the latest is IIS 8.5.
- There are Windows installers with details on what to do for IIS and Apache on the PHP windows download site.
- The IIS PHP site big install button is for PHP 5.3.
- Microsoft suggests installing PHP from the Web PI which offers 5.3.
- WAMP currently offers PHP 5.3 or 5.4.

Wordpress
As of Wordpress 3.2 it requires PHP 5.2.4 or higher.
Laravel
Laravel 4.0 and 4.1 require PHP 5.3. The master branch of in development code requires PHP 5.4.
Zend Framework (zf2)
Required PHP 5.3.3 or newer. The latest development branch required 5.3.23. There is no ticket to move to a newer version of PHP.
Symfony
Currently requires PHP 5.3.3 or newer.
PHPUnit
Requires PHP 5.3.3 or newer.
PHPDoc
Requires PHP 5.3.3 or newer.
AWS SDK
Requires PHP 5.3.3 or newer.
Azure SDK
Requires PHP 5.3.0 or newer.
