=== WOO Mission Statement ===
The Women of OpenStack (WOO) strive to increase the diversity of the OpenStack community by overcoming OpenStack's barrier to entry through educational sessions, professional networking, mentorship, social inclusion, and enhanced resource access. WOO recognizes that individuals in minority groups are more likely to have challenges accessing the resources it takes to learn and participate in complex technologies, which is why WOO welcomes all women and their allies who share an interest in OpenStack, open source, and adjacent technologies. These goals are achieved through leading and sponsorship of educational sessions and social events that promote inclusion in the OpenStack Community.
=== WOO Mission Statement ===

=== WOO Initiatives ===
==== Identified Challenges & Suggested Solutions ====
(takeaways from the May 2015 Vancouver Summit)
{| class="wikitable"
|-
! Group !! Challenge !! Suggested Next Steps
|-
| 1 || Need more women PTLs and need to support women who want to grow as technical contributors || Find ways to support women to be recognized as technical leaders. Example: travel funding for women to attend OpenStack summits
|-
| 2 || Not enough women in the OpenStack community || Attract women to the OpenStack community and support them to remain active in the community. Example: mentorship of women to achieve technical leadership roles
|-
| 3 || Women need support and practice to more confidently communicate in meetings or in larger groups || Webinar on how to participate more effectively in meetings. Example: role play meeting scenarios, help women gain confidence and practice to ask questions during a Tokyo summit talk
|-
| 4 || Need to support higher inclusion of women in the OpenStack community || Workshop to develop leadership soft skills, encourage inclusion, recognize regional gaps in communication, celebrate the successes of women in the OpenStack community
|-
| 5 || Need women leaders to be more visible in the OpenStack main tent sessions || Have a woman keynote speaker, more women participate in panel discussions. Support women with speaker training and creating a pipeline of speaking opportunities for them.
|-
| 6 || Need a supportive and interactive environment for women to come together and support one another with the OpenStack community || Create a private IRC channel for the Women of OpenStack, opportunities to seek and find mentors more naturally based on technology and areas of interest
|-
| 7 || Need a platform to encourage informal mentoring and networking || Reward and recognize mentorship as a key skill that is important as other technical skills
|}
5.0 MEETING NOTES
The web meeting started at approximately 3:05 PM CDT via GoToMeeting. Introductory comments were
made by Clyde Seepersad, Linux Foundation thanking the committee for their participation in the project.
AMP was then made host of the meeting, and Steve Nettles and James Hellrung, AMP, began facilitation of
the meeting. They reviewed the initial steps of the project and informed the committee of the goals of the
third meeting, which included:
∙ finalizing the major domains,
∙ reviewing the task list classifications.
All documents were shared using GoToMeeting, with Steve Nettles and James Hellrung facilitating the rest
of the meeting proceedings. The committee first considered the current list of domains based on the
OpenStack website. After several minutes of discussion, they added one additional domain. They then
completed review of the draft list of task classifications. The homework assignment was to review the initial
task list and classify the task according to one of the major domains. AMP summarized their ratings and
began by reviewing the tasks in starting with tasks that had classification disagreement between committee
members. The committee came to an agreement on the task classifications. After review of the initial list,
each committee member agreed to review the classifications. There was verbal interaction by the committee
as well as “back channel” IM commentary via GoToMeeting.
It was decided that the list of retained tasks would be published to Google Drive and the committee would
review the list of tasks, assigning each to one area of the revised list of major domains. AMP revised the
spreadsheet of tasks for the committee's input for publishing to Google Drive. Audio, screenshared video,
and the chat log were recorded and can be viewed on Google Drive in this folder: 2015 07 01 Meeting 3.
5.0 MEETING NOTES

The web meeting started at 3:04 PM CDT via GoToMeeting. Introductory comments were made by Clyde

Seepersad, Linux Foundation thanking the committee for their participation in the project. AMP was then

made host of the meeting, and Steve Nettles and James Hellrung, AMP, began facilitation of the meeting.

They reviewed the initial steps of the project and informed the committee of the goals of the second meeting,

which included:

● preparing a revised draft of the Scope (practitioner definition)

● finalizing the major domains,

● reviewing the initial task list for inclusion/exclusion.

All documents were shared using GoToMeeting, with Steve Nettles and James Hellrung facilitating the rest

of the meeting proceedings. The committee first reviewed and prepared a new draft of the definition of the

target practitioners. They then considered an alternate list of domains based on the OpenStack website.

After several minutes of discussion, they decided that the domains better reflected the target job, and

approved its use, with one additional domain. They then completed review of the draft list of activities. The

homework assignment was to review the initial task list and vote on inclusion/exclusion of the task. AMP

summarized their ratings and presented the tasks in order of tasks rated excluded by most committee

members to those rated most included by most committee members. The committee agreed on those

tasks that should be deleted and those that should be retained. After review of the initial list, each

committee member agreed to write additional tasks for each of the new content domains. There was verbal

interaction by the committee as well as “back channel” IM commentary via GoToMeeting.

It was decided that the list of retained tasks would be published to Google Drive and the committee would

review the list of tasks, assigning each to one area of the revised list of major domains. AMP revised the

spreadsheet of tasks for the committee's input for publishing to Google Drive. Audio and screenshared

video were recorded and can be accessed on Google Drive in this folder: 2015 06 24 Meeting 2. The chat

log recording failed and is not available for Meeting 2. The meeting adjourned at 5 PM CDT.

6.0 DECISIONS MADE

The committee will categorize the revised task list within the new Domains.

7.0 POST MEETING ACTION ITEMS

Each committee member will assign the revised tasks to the corresponding content domain, using the new

list of content domains. They will also write additional tasks in his or her assigned content domain(s) by 1:00

pm UTC (8:00 am CDT) Tuesday, June 30. James Hellrung at AMP will then compile the data and present it

for full committee in the call on Wednesday, July 1. Links and instructions to be sent in a separate email.
Next meeting: Wednesday, June 24, 2015, UTC to 22:00 UTC (3:00 pm to 5:00 pm CDT)

The web meeting started at 3:02 PM CDT via GoToMeeting. Introductory comments were made by Heidi

Bretz, OpenStack Foundation, welcoming the committee and introducing the project. Steve Nettles, AMP

then provided background information on the JTA process in which the rationale and goals of the JTA were

All documents were shared using GoToMeeting. Steve Nettles and James Hellrung, AMP facilitated the rest

of the meeting proceedings. The committee first discussed the definition of the target practitioners. After

several minutes of discussion, they decided that it would be best to review the draft list of activities and

domains, and revisit developing the definitions after their review of the draft list. There was verbal interaction

by the committee as well as “back channel” IM commentary via GoToMeeting. The committee developed the

initial list of major domains, and decided on a draft list to be used for the next phase of the project.

It was decided that the draft list of activities would be published to Google Drive and the committee would

review it prior to next week’s meeting. Specifically, the committee was tasked to review the complete list of

tasks, assigning each to one area of the revised list of major domains. AMP will revise the spreadsheet of

activities/KSAs for the committee's input for publishing to Google Drive. Audio, screenshared video, and the

chat log were recorded and can be viewed on Google Drive in this folder: 06 17 2015 Meeting 1. The

meeting adjourned at 5 PM CDT.

Review tasks individually before next meeting.
