Branch Merge Proposal Freeze (BF)
BranchMergeProposalFreeze (BF) is one of the milestones in OpenStack's release schedule. Like all freezes, it happens at the end of the day (or 23:59 PST).
Freeze
Once BF kicks in, you are no longer allowed to propose branches containing new features for merging into the current development release. Such branches should be rejected by the review team.
Rationale
BF occurs one week before FeatureFreeze, to give time for reviewers to provide feedback and for developers to incorporate that feedback. It is recommended to not wait for BF to propose your branch.
Exception procedure
If you want to propose a branch containing a feature for merging into the development release after BF, follow those steps:
- Submit your branch for merging
- In the description, provide the following information:
- Benefit of the branch
- Risk of regression
- Name of associated blueprint, if any
The core developers will consider your branch, but with a lesser priority than branches that were submitted in time. If your branch doesn't make it, remember that the next merge window is just a few weeks away
